JUNG Eun Seung

A technology executive who has contributed to strengthening the global competitiveness of Korea’s semiconductor industry by leading the development and commercialization of core semiconductor technologies for nearly four decades since joining Samsung Electronics in 1985.
He has held key leadership positions at Samsung Electronics, including Head of the Semiconductor R&D Center, the inaugural Head of the Foundry Business, and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the Device Solutions (DS) Division. In these roles, he led the development and commercialization of world-class semiconductor technologies, including 14nm and 10nm FinFET, EUV lithography, embedded MRAM (eMRAM), GAA/MBCFET, and advanced DRAM and V-NAND technologies. In particular, he contributed to advancing Korea’s system semiconductor ecosystem and cultivating highly skilled professionals by strengthening the technological competitiveness of Samsung’s foundry business and expanding collaboration with domestic fabless companies, semiconductor equipment and materials suppliers, universities, and research institutes.
He currently serves as a Non-Executive Advisor to Samsung Electronics, a Full Member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK), and a Distinguished Professor at Hanyang University. In June 2026, he was appointed Chair of the Planning Committee for the Grand Transformation Committee of the Jeonnam–Gwangju Integrated Special Metropolitan City.
He received his B.S. in Physics Education and M.S. in Physics from Seoul National University, and his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Texas at Arlington. He has authored and published more than 100 papers in academic journals and conference proceedings in Korea and abroad.

Human being’s imagination has continuously created new technologies and industries. Semiconductors are a core technology that turns human being’s imagination into reality. The advancement of AI is exponentially increasing the volume of data and computation, further heightening the importance of semiconductors.
In particular, the era of Agentic AI and Physical AI requires new semiconductor innovations, including high-performance computing, HBM, and advanced packaging.
Samsung Electronics has taken on the challenge of the semiconductor business even under unfavorable conditions, creating inflection points in its business through memory, system semiconductors, and foundry. Innovations such as DRAM, V-NAND, FinFET, EUV, and GAA are the result of continuous efforts to overcome the limitations of existing technologies.
Future competitiveness comes not only from technology, but also from comprehensive innovation capabilities that connect memory, logic, foundry, and packaging. Such innovation cannot be achieved alone; it is made possible through trust-based collaboration with customers, universities, research institutes, materials companies, and equipment companies.
